Macaron Magic in Paris: A Sweet Adventure with Miya at "Le Foodist"

When traveling to Paris, there are a few must-do experiences—seeing the Eiffel Tower, strolling along the Seine, indulging in delicious pastries... and of course, making authentic French macarons! On our recent trip, Miya and I had the chance to take a macaron-making class at Le Foodist, and let me tell you, it was one of the most unique experiences we’ve ever had.

A Unique Experience for Our Travel Memories

What made this experience so special was that we had never really baked anything from scratch before. Sure, we’ve mixed up a box of brownies or cookies at home, but creating macarons from the ground up? That was something totally new for us! It was amazing to learn the intricate process behind these delicate little cookies and to do it together as a family.

If you’ve ever traveled internationally with kids, you know the struggle of finding tours and activities they’ll actually enjoy. While I always try to pick experiences that I think Miya will love, this time, she actually requested this class! And she was right—this was the perfect hands-on activity for us to do together.

What to Expect at Le Foodist

Our guide, Frédéric, was incredible! He walked us through every step with patience, ensuring we mixed, piped, and baked our macarons to perfection. We learned so many surprising details—who knew there were so many techniques involved in making these little cookies? It definitely gave us a whole new appreciation for the art of French pastry-making.

The recommended age for this class is 12 and up, which makes sense. While the class was super fun (and involved getting our hands a little messy), it was also detailed and required a lot of focus. Younger kids might get impatient since it’s a longer experience, but for older kids and families, it’s the perfect way to bond while learning something new.

The Best Souvenir: A Box of Fresh Macarons

One of the best parts? At the end of the class, we each got to take home a box of our handmade macarons! They were so fresh and delicious—way better than anything store-bought.

I even tried to save a box for Cam so he could taste our creations when we got back home. But here’s a travel tip: if you want to bring your macarons back as a souvenir, book the class the day before your flight! I refrigerated them for two days, hoping they’d survive the trip, but unfortunately, that was too long. Lesson learned for next time!

What’s Next? A French Cooking Class!

We had such a great time baking in Paris that next time we visit, we’re hoping to take a full cooking class. Learning how to make some of our favorite French dishes sounds like the perfect way to bring a taste of Paris back home.

If you’re visiting Paris and looking for a fun, family-friendly activity, I highly recommend the macaron-making class at Le Foodist. It’s hands-on, delicious, and such a memorable way to experience French culture. Plus, you get to eat the results—what’s better than that?
